Art Therapy FAQ
What is Art Therapy?
It is a form of psychotherapy which uses the creative process of art making to enhance and improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals.
The difference between Art as Therapy and Art Therapy?
Art as therapy is simply experiencing the intrinsic benefits of creating art.
In Art Therapy, a trained practitioner (combination of education and experience) acts as a guide for the people that they are working with; to guide them to where they want to go vis a vis their goals. The client/art maker is the interpreter, not the Art Therapist.
Everyone is able to participate in art therapy. No artistic experience or ability is required. All you need is a desire to make art and explore using a variety of different art making mediums and techniques.
Art Therapy is not about learning to draw. It is about making art to find deeper meaning.
